Reflections on Yoga and
Baby
Yoga has been a vital connection between
my babies and me. It not only gave me beautiful memories,
but it helped me survive pregnancy with joy and relaxation
by stretching my body and making room for my baby to
grow.
I had a wonderful experience when I was
pregnant with my first child. It was at the end of a yoga
class in the relaxation pose. My body and mind were in a
deep and relaxed state. I felt numb from head to toe. Then,
all I could feel was the beating of my baby's heart inside
my belly. The heart beat felt so hard I could hear it. It
was a powerful and moving experience, and I had to wake my
body. I left that class in awe. I can still feel that
beating of her heart. And when she came into this world I
felt I was a part of her beating heart.
Now, yoga is a way we connect. I
furthered my practice of yoga with her as an infant and
those times are the most precious memories I have of getting
to know her and celebrating her as an infant and then
blossoming into a little girl. Now we enjoy doing Downward
Dog together and the Bow pose, Snake, Lion, Frog, handstands
and so on. We even make up poses. We have developed a
closeness and bond that I will cherish forever. When I
became pregnant with my second daughter I had other
experiences in yoga. My second always seemed to know when I
would begin yoga because she would move so much that it
tickled. And when she was delivered she didn't let out a
cry. I was worried and asked the doctor, and he told me
"sometimes babies are just born real peaceful."

Kids Yoga
Kids Yoga at Yoga Bliss is here to
provide culture and a progressive growing environment for
our children's future. Children are natural born yogis. Yoga
connects them to nature and they become nature of the type
that roots to the earth and reaches for the sky. They can
roar like a lion, stretch like a dog and stand strong like a
tree. Then they can take time to relax and learn how
important quiet time can be. And children learn most by
copying or watching their parent or caregiver so interaction
in the yoga poses is encouraged. Kids Yoga at Yoga Bliss is
a way to build a stronger sense of community by bringing our
children together.
